Blue Sky Scrubs has changed the look of hospitals and operating rooms around the world. Their fashionable medical scrub hats have even been featured on shows like “Grey’s Anatomy.” From their patented “pixie scrub hat” and “pony scrub hat” for women, to their flattering scrubs with signature pockets, Blue Sky Scrubs are instantly recognizable to those in the medical community.
We caught up with Wendy Griffith of Blue Sky Scrubs to learn more about their shipping process.
Tell us a little about Blue Sky Scrubs.
“When the founder, Shelby Marquardt, was an anesthesiology resident, she didn’t like wearing the unattractive, ill-fitting scrub hats for long hours every day. She created the first Pony Scrub Hat in her living room using scraps of fabric she had collected. After cutting, sewing and altering the hat numerous times, she finally perfected the pattern sleek, slim-fitting cap with a ribbon-tied pouch that neatly ties back a short or a long ponytail. Once the design was patented, she started wearing the hat to work and her co-workers clamored for their own Pony Scrub Hats.
“In 2005, Blue Sky Scrubs became an official business, and that is when we started working with a manufacturer. “
What was shipping like before ShipWorks?
“We used a few different shipping methods before trying out ShipWorks. When we first started out we were shipping about 10-20 orders a day, and everything was going through the post office. Once our company grew we started using UPS printing through WorldShip (50-100 orders daily). This process worked, but was very slow and time consuming. We used to spend 1-2 hours per morning just getting all of our shipping labels to match up with our orders (roughly 50-100 orders per day). It was very frustrating and time consuming. Then we found ShipWorks! The greatest company ever!”
What are the results with ShipWorks?
“ShipWorks has helped cut our time in half when printing out shipping labels every morning. Instead of the process taking 1-2 hours, it takes probably 20 minutes, and maybe 45 minutes on a really busy day. ShipWorks is by far the easiest shipping software that we have ever used.“
Why do you choose to ship with flat rate?
“We wanted to keep flat rate pricing for our customers to keep it simple, and to keep customers coming back. We want to drive in as much business as we can, and we don’t want to have expensive shipping rates by going with actual cost to drive our customers away. However, we do have ‘real time shipping fees’ for all of our international customers since international shipping is so expensive. We also offer free shipping on all orders of $155 or more, and free shipping on all returns and exchanges.”
Do you customize your packaging?
“We ship all of our orders in fancy white gift boxes that are placed inside mailers. The mailers are customized with our blue sky logo on the packaging. Our packaging is extremely important to us. We want all of our customers to feel like they are receiving a gift every time they order from us.”
What’s your favorite ShipWorks feature?
“I actually have a few things that I would like to mention. One of the best parts is your customer service. Whenever we have a problem or need to update something, your customer service team makes fixing these issues seamless, and also in a very timely fashion. Everyone is friendly, and that is not always the case when working with other software companies. Your company is amazing, and makes things so easy for the customer.
“Printing shipping labels in bulk is easier than ever! With just a click of the download button we can print 10 or 200 orders and it will do it all at once. We also have a lot of orders that have to be printed individually on items that ship separately, like backorders or custom orders. It is so awesome that we can have our account customized to where those shipping labels don’t print when we do a mass print in the morning. I also love that we can use any shipping method whether it be UPS, USPS, or FedEx. It has cut down a lot of our printing time just with that feature alone.”
